Food Drive

AFAC distributes over 80,000 pounds of food to more than 3,500 families every week. 40% of that food is donated to AFAC from food drives and grocery store donations.

We need your help to feed all of the families in our care!

Food can be dropped off at AFAC's main warehouse, located at 2708 S. Nelson St. during the following hours:

  • Monday - Friday: 8:30am to 4:30pm
  • Saturday: 8:30am - 1:00pm

Use the following guide to help you plan your food drive:

Step 1: Review our food drive ideas, make a plan, and recruit your team.
Step 2: Review our most needed items, listed below.
Step 3: Register your food drive online.
Step 4: Advertise using our flyer templates and social media toolkit.
Step 5: Collect food donations!
Step 6: Deliver the food to AFAC during food drop-off hours or schedule a pickup using the registration form.

AFAC is most in need of the following low sugar & low sodium items:

  • Canned tuna
  • Canned soups
  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned tomatoes
  • Peanut butter (in plastic jars)
  • Cereal

Additional items to donate for the holiday season;

  • Sugar
  • Flour
  • Cooking oil
  • Coffee

Please refrain from donating foods that are opened, expired, prepared meals, or packaged in glass. We also do not accept ice packs, styrofoam coolers, or plastic bags as donations.

When choosing items to donate, look for labels that read:
low sodium, no salt added, no sugar added, unsweetened, 100% fruit juice, etc.

Food drives can be done on your own time within your own neighborhood, group of friends, sports team, faith community, workplace, etc. You can even ask your local grocery store if you can host a storefront food drive.

The food from your drive will help keep our costs down and provide us with the kinds of food we need. Food donations are tax deductible; donated food is valued at $1.92 per pound. Your food donations will be weighed and you will be asked to fill out a receipt at the time of drop-off. Food donations of 100 pounds or more will also receive a thank you letter by mail.

If you have any questions, please email fooddrives@afac.org.
