Substitute Drivers for Home Delivery

Our home delivery program brings our grocery items directly to clients who are elderly, disabled, or have other health issues requiring them to stay at home. We are in need of substitute delivery drivers.

For your shift, you would arrive at AFAC on Monday, Tuesday, or Friday between 10:00-11:00 am (or Wednesday from 12:00-1:00) and deliver groceries to between 3-5 clients in the same general vicinity of each other. It takes approximately one hour after you leave AFAC to make all of the deliveries. This is a great opportunity for couples and friends to volunteer together to make it easier.

Requirements

  • You need to be physically strong to carry the groceries up flights of steps or from a far away parking spot.
  • You should also have a car large enough to hold the equivalent of 7 milk crates.

As a sub, you can decide if you’re available or not and determine which day(s) you are available. It’s fairly typical that we have at least one cancellation each week (sometimes on short notice). Though subs may not be “called up” every single week, we would ask that anyone interested make a commitment to serving for at least 6 months. Volunteers are, however, encouraged to try it out once or twice before making that commitment.

If you would like to be considered, please email volunteer4afac@afac.org and let us know which day(s) you are available.
