Gleaning season is here!

Every year, AFAC sends volunteers to glean at farms in the Northern Virginia region. Currently, we are sending volunteers to JK Community Farm (in Purcellville, VA) every other Saturday morning and every third Wednesday morning per month until early October to help them harvest food. Volunteer shifts are from 9am-12pm. This is a great volunteer opportunity for families with younger kids (5 years and older).

Current volunteers can look for the gleaning spots on the online calendar. If you are not currently a volunteer with AFAC, please fill out a volunteer profile form to get access to the online calendar and start signing up for gleaning shifts! If you are interested in bringing a group to go gleaning, please email us at volunteer4afac@afac.org and we can schedule you.

Note: gleaners are responsible for their own transportation to and from the farm. JK Farm is about 1 hour away from Arlington. If you have a large vehicle and are interested in helping transport some of the food back to AFAC’s warehouse after your gleaning shift, please email us at volunteer4afac@afac.org.

All the food grown at JK Community Farms is donated to local food banks including AFAC. Thanks for helping us provide fresh produce to our families!
