Summer Hunger Challenge 2022

As we approach the summer, I can’t help but reflect on how far we have come since the start of the pandemic over two years ago. Here at AFAC, we saw a record high number of clients at the peak of the pandemic, with many families accessing food assistance for the very first time in their lives. Even as lines reached the end of the block, we were able to serve groceries to everyone who showed up at our doors. This would not have been possible without the strong support of donors like you.
Just as the effects of the pandemic seemed to abate and lines started to get shorter, we were faced with a new challenge – inflation. It has been reported that on average, households are spending $341 per month more to purchase the same food, goods, and services compared to one year ago. This is a dire situation for food insecure families, leaving parents worried about how to keep their children from going hungry through the summer months.
Fortunately, anyone in our community in need of food assistance can turn to AFAC. Once a week, families can pick up fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, meats, milk, cereal, canned goods, and more – all for free. This provides relief by allowing families to redirect their scarce funds to other expenses, such as rent, utilities, and medication.
Make a contribution today and join our Summer Hunger Challenge. Your continued support of AFAC is critical to help us meet the increasing demand for our services. AFAC is serving more than 3,000 families every month, with 80% of them visiting every week.
You can have confidence that your gift will truly support those in need in our community. Together, we can ensure that families stay fed throughout the summer.
