Summer Hunger Challenge 2021
I hope you will join us and donate to AFAC’s Summer Hunger Challenge today. Your contributions will provide families like Sandra’s continued access to free and nutritious supplemental groceries on a weekly basis, allowing them to redirect limited funds to other essential expenditures.
At the onset of the pandemic, Sandra’s retail job hours were drastically reduced. She had to stop working altogether to care for her two children when the schools closed indefinitely. Even after cutting expenses, meal portions continued to shrink. A sinking feeling of hopelessness would set in Sandra’s stomach, knowing her children were still hungry after finishing their dinners.
After years of donating to AFAC food drives, Sandra never imagined she would need food assistance for herself. Fighting her nerves, she entered through AFAC’s doors and was warmly greeted by volunteers. They eased her concerns and guided her through the food distribution line where she could select the groceries to fill her pantry. As she looked through her selections that included fresh produce, eggs, meats, milk, cereal, and canned goods, Sandra felt a sense of relief knowing her community was there for her and her family when they needed help.
Sandra represents just one out of the 2,344 families that accessed AFAC’s services for the very first time due to economic hardships during the past year. This is in addition to the thousands of families who already depended on AFAC’s services for weekly groceries.
Sandra is grateful for the food she receives from AFAC and is hopeful for brighter days ahead. With your help, you can make a difference and ensure that families in need are well supported with food throughout the summer.
