MSI Holiday Fundraiser for Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC)

MSI is raising funds this holiday season to support the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) with a Sponsor Purchased Food Initiative. AFAC volunteers will use the MSI donations to purchase food in bulk which MSI’ers will then prepare for distribution to our neighbors in need during the afternoon activity at the December 7th Networking day in the Courthouse offices.

MSI will match every dollar up to $1,500. Donations can be anonymous and still count towards our goal. If every MSI’er donates just $10, we will easily meet our goal, and anything additional will provide more food for our neighbors in need!

Many of us are aware how expensive it is to live in Arlington. There are 10,000 households, more than 24,000 individuals and 10% of Arlington’s population, with household incomes below $43,000. It is estimated that more than 3,000 children are going hungry in our community every day.

AFAC is the only organization in Arlington solely devoted to providing Arlington residents with dignified access to nutritious, supplemental groceries—free of charge.

In our local community, AFAC serves approximately 2,700 families each week, assisting more than 16,000 individuals per year, many of them children, seniors and persons with disabilities. Instead of pre-packaging groceries for distribution, families select food from 18 AFAC centers around Arlington, so that they can take home items they know their families will enjoy. This choice model has been proven to reduce food waste and provides much-needed items, such fresh fruits and vegetables, chicken, fish, milk, eggs, rice, beans, cereal or oatmeal, canned goods, and bread. Over 4 million pounds of groceries are distributed to families in need per year.
