Give a Lift – AFAC’s Giving Tuesday Campaign
AFAC will be participating in #GivingTuesday. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. Last year, Giving Tuesday donations helped us purchase two brand new vans. This year, we would like your help to purchase a forklift for our warehouse!
Update #6: Between this page and our Facebook Fundraising page, we have surpassed our goal! Thank you to everyone who generously donated to this successful Giving Tuesday campaign! If you would still like to contribute to AFAC, think about donating to our Hope Against Hunger campaign to help provide special holiday meals to AFAC families.
Update #5: Thanks to a very generous donor with a donation of $5,181.66, we are now at $17,090.47! 85% of the way to our goal!
Update #4: Highest donation still at $1,000. As of 4:30 pm, the total between this page and our Facebook fundraising page is: $10,571.25.
Update #3: We have 3 people who have donated $1,000. The donor with the highest total contribution for the day will get to name our forklift! As of 12 pm, the total between this page and our Facebook fundraising page is: $7,620.76.
Update #2: The match by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is over, but our campaign continues! Thanks to our generous donors, we are more than 25% of the way to our goal! Keep up the good work!
Update #1: Starting at 8 AM on Tuesday, donations made on our Facebook fundraising page will be matched by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation up to $1,000 per fundraiser until all of their matching funds are distributed. Matching donations must be made through Facebook.
AFAC is currently undergoing renovations to our warehouse and distribution space. At the moment, all AFAC activities are being done next door. Once renovations are complete in January 2018, the space next door will be used solely for food storage and we will have the ability to store more food vertically. More food on site will cut down the number of delivery charges for purchased food and will help us consolidate food we have packed away at local storage units (another cost). The only way we can make this possible is to purchase a forklift.
When we need to retrieve food from our units, it takes 1-2 staff members and a vehicle away from the warehouse. They have to breakdown the pallet at the storage unit, load the van, drive back to AFAC, unload the van, and re-stack the food onto another pallet. Having a forklift will reduce the amount of time and work for our staff so they can focus on providing the best service to our families that come to AFAC for their weekly groceries.
For this #GivingTuesday campaign, we hope to raise $20,000. This includes the purchase of a forklift, professional training for warehouse staff and drivers, new battery, a maintenance service schedule, and more pallet racks and beams for the warehouse space. To incentivize donors, the donor with the highest total contribution for the day will get to name the forklift. Some examples are “The Power Lifter”, “Steve, from Accounting”, or “Lifty McForkface” (name is subject to approval). This page will be updated throughout the day so visitors will know where the current highest donation stands. Donations for the naming contest ends at 11:59 pm EST on November 29 and must be made online.
Thank you in advance for your support!
