The goal of our health education program is to develop and expand interactions with clients in order to educate them to make better choices in selecting and preparing food. We provide bilingual (Spanish-English) health information via fact sheets and displays that allow volunteers to interact with clients. Past topics have included: reading food labels, understanding portion sizes, sugar, whole grains, fiber, and the importance of fresh fruits and vegetables, etc. AFAC would like to expand how we engage with clients regarding these health topics. We are looking to have a health education team of people available to come to AFAC and our other distribution sites to talk directly with clients about the fact sheets and set-up a table with information and models, and help AFAC find videos in multiple languages to show on the TV in the client waiting room at Nelson Street. Our programs happen at various times throughout the week – Monday-Friday during the day, Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.
