The goal of the cooking demonstrations is to introduce new foods to clients and to teach simple and healthy ways to prepare foods provided at AFAC. Twice a week, during morning distribution, we set up a cooking station in the client waiting room, prepare a recipe and provide tasting samples to the clients. We distribute the recipe, in English and Spanish, as well. In addition to the volunteer cook we also have a volunteer Spanish translator for each of the demonstrations. Recipes, ingredients and cooking supplies are provided. Our volunteer cooks don’t have any special experience; they just enjoy cooking and interacting with the clients. We have compiled a cookbook featuring delicious, healthy and simple vegetable recipes that were prepared during our cooking demonstrations for clients. The cookbook is available in English and Spanish. Thank you to the volunteers who tested and edited recipes for this cookbook and to Deborah Eckbreth for her layout design.
