Many gardens in Arlington that grow crops for AFAC, but the most historic garden is at Arlington House (1803) located in Arlington Cemetery. This Saturday, June 25 between 11 am – 4 pm, visitors can witness a re-enactment of the historic wedding of slaves Maria Carter and Charles Syphax, hear civil war spirituals sung by Jubilee Voices, and learn about African-American culinary history from chef Michael Twitty as he recreates dishes of his ancestors. Gardeners will be spinning flax grown in the garden, and tending crops.
