Hunger Heroes – April, 2016
AGUDAS ACHIM CONGREGATION
In the weeks leading up to April 10, the congregation at Agudas Achim Synagogue rallied together for the 2016 International Good Deeds Day in an effort to battle hunger in Arlington. For the second year in a row, the synagogue orchestrated a large-scale food collection, Emergency Food Kit (EFK) packaging, and educational activities for the religious school students to learn about hunger and food insecurity in our communities.
Agudas Achim teamed up with AVODAH, the Jewish Service Corps, to help students better understand the challenges of living on minimum wage and to recognize their personal responsibility to give back to the community. Agudas Achim students also shared stories of their volunteer experiences.
Students from each grade collected items for the EFK’s and the older students, from 6th through 10th grades, sorted the food and packed the items in discreet bags. As a whole, Agudas Achim collected 648 pounds of food for the families of AFAC!
Thank you, Agudas Achim Congregation, for being our Hunger Heroes!
