letter carrier collecting food drive donations in mail truck

Stamp Out Hunger

Each year, the National Association of Letter Carriers dedicates the 2nd Saturday of May to serving communities nationwide by collecting food to be delivered to local hunger organizations. In Arlington County, all food collected by letter carriers will come here to AFAC!

We ask that residents put non-perishable food items into a grocery bag and leave them next to their mailbox by 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2022. Your letter carrier will pick up the items and deliver them to AFAC.

If you have donations that don’t get picked up or if you have a communal mailbox, you can drop off your donations at the following alternate sites:

  • Arlington Parks and Recreation Community Centers: Aurora Hills Community Center (735 18th St S), Barcroft Fitness Center (4200 S Four Mile Run Dr), Langston-Brown Community Center (2121 N Culpeper St), Madison Community Center (3829 N Stafford St), Lubber Run Community Center (300 N Park Dr), Walter Reed Community Center (2909 16th St S)
  • Arlington Public Library Branches: Central (1010 N Quincy St), Aurora Hills (735 18th St S), Columbia Pike (816 S Walter Reed Dr), Shirlington (4200 Campbell Ave), and Westover (1644 N McKinley Rd)
  • Shirlington Annex Post Office (2565 S Shirlington Rd)

The foods we need most are:

  • Low sugar cereal
  • Low sodium canned tomato products (diced, paste, or sauce)
  • Low sodium canned tuna
  • Low sodium canned soups
  • Low sodium canned beans
  • *No glass, expired food, or household items, please!

Be on the lookout for our flyers, yard signs, and advertisements!

The event is finished.
