Come celebrate 30 years with AFAC and help us Shine a Light on Hunger!
In 1988, a small group of citizens, along with six congregations, came together to help their local neighbors that were facing many life challenges and struggles. This was the start of the Arlington Food Assistance Center. AFAC began by feeding 59 families from the basement of the Clarendon Baptist Church and helping to bring hope to the many children, families and elders in Arlington. Now 30 years later, AFAC, in its newly renovated facility located on South Nelson Street, is serving 2,376 families weekly. This is only possible because of the generous help and support from our many donors and volunteers.
Our honorary guest for the evening will be Mrs. Dorothy McAuliffe. As First Lady of Virginia from 2014 to 2018, Mrs. McAuliffe’s strong advocacy helped schools adopt Breakfast After the Bell programs to ensure children were able to start each school day well fed and ready to learn. Please join the Arlington Food Assistance Center on April 19th as we shine a light on hunger and honor those in our community – the many individuals, families, corporations and community partners – who contribute to AFAC’s success. Let us bring elegance and inspiration together as we celebrate 30 years of fulfilling our mission and feeding our neighbors in need.
